James W. Grable, Jr.

James W. Grable, Jr. has wide-ranging experience in a variety of litigation, including trials and appeals, civil and criminal, in state and federal courts.

Mr. Grable's practice includes complex federal criminal and civil litigation. He served from 1996 to 1998 as confidential law clerk to the Hon. William M. Skretny, Chief United States District Court Judge for the Western District of New York.

Since 2009, Mr. Grable has been one of a select number of attorneys in upstate New York identified by their peers as a top lawyer in the field of criminal defense as published by Super Lawyers magazine. He also is listed in The Best Lawyers In America® in the category of Criminal Law, Non-White Collar and in the Business First of Buffalo Who's Who in Law in criminal defense. He has received the highest rating for ability and ethics by the Martindale-Hubbell legal directory.

In 2011, Mr. Grable was appointed by the United States Sentencing Commission as one of only 17 criminal practitioners from across the United States to serve as a voting member of the Sentencing Commission’s Practitioners Advisory Group. The group assists the United States Sentencing Commission in executing its statutory responsibilities, and represents the interests of private practitioners nationwide on a variety of sentencing-related issues.

Currently, Mr. Grable serves on the board of directors of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is an adjunct professor of trial technique at the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School. He lectures frequently on evidence and federal trial objections.

Mr. Grable is a Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is also an honors graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Buffalo Law Review and received the Robert J. Connelly award for excellence in trial technique and the Carlos C. Alden award for outstanding contributions to the Buffalo Law Review.
